About Henderson

Henderson Murray aka H founded InnerI to inspire and motivate young people in their self-development. This can range from working with pupils at KS2 right through to KS5, or from a young person who is at risk of offending or has offended  or is unemployed short term or long-term. With his extensive experience, knowledge and vast network of professionals to call upon, his mission is to improve the lives and prospects of those who have been marginalised; deemed to have challenging behaviour or are at risk of developing a pattern of anti-social or criminal behaviour.

Having attained a B.A. (Hons) in Communication Studies and utilising his knowledge of housing, community cohesion, and marrying this with his involvement in mentoring and coaching, led to him training and becoming a Prince’s Trust Team Leader delivering the 12 week Team programme to young people between 16-25. The focus of the programme was on engaging with the hardest to reach students. They were referred from a rich mix of backgrounds and circumstances – in care; leaving care; young offenders/ex-offenders; unemployed and educational underachievers.

Key skill areas developed were:

  • Working with others
  • Problem solving
  • Improving own learning and performance
  • Communication
  • Numeracy
Over the 2 years as Team Leader Henderson helped position his Team programme as one of the most successful within the 33 London Boroughs; with retention and progression figures consistently at 90% or above.

After working with the Prince’s Trust Henderson was employed as a tutor by the City of Westminster College primarily to develop and structure a Fresh Start programme, aimed at giving 16-18 year olds an opportunity to gain or build upon their basic education; personal & social development; employability and enterprise skills.

The programme was very successful in developing business relationships allowing the students access to some of the world’s biggest companies, Vodafone; Statoil; M&S; Bacardi; Visa and Novotel to name a few on which to hone their employability skills . Challenging perceptions they also made differences in their community by working with organisations like Circle Sports; the Showroom Gallery and Great Ormond St Hospital, carrying out fundraising activities and creative challenges.

Henderson assisted in the development of the ‘Graduate – Degree4Work’ summer programme run by the City of Westminster College, Business Development Unit. The programme was aimed at transitioning from academic life to achieving success in the job market for the young graduates, arranging real interviews and job opportunities. Of his 11 graduates he contributed heavily in getting 8 into work.

Henderson’s passion for inspiring; motivating and promoting self-development in his students, was recognised by the City of Westminster College when in celebrating staff excellence he was presented with the award for ‘Excellence in Promoting Student Diversity’.
